Travel Well Competition – March Through March

Introduction

Join the March Through March Challenge to get your steps in!  The goal is to walk at least 4,000 steps each day throughout the month, which works out at a total of 124,000 steps.

Those who complete on average 4,000 steps a day, or more are eligible to enter our Travel Well competition to win one of four £50 shopping vouchers!  Subject to the Terms and Conditions below.

How to enter the competition?

There are two ways to enter.

The first way is to record your steps on the GoJauntly app.  Download the free app and search for the March through March challenge and sign up.

The second way is to enter ‘offline’. Record your steps on this challenge record sheet which you can print out or pick one up at some community venues including Bulwell Riverside, Tesco Express Bulwell, Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Strelley Library, St. Ann’s Valley Centre, The Chase Neighbourhood Centre and The Renewal Trust at Cherry Lodge.  To record your steps, you could use one of our Travel Well pedometers, which you can pick up with your challenge sheet or use a step count app on your phone.  Then either hand the completed challenge sheet at the Travel Well stand at your local Health and Wellbeing Hub event in April (details when and where can be found at this link) or take a photo of your record, and send it by email along with your name, postcode and phone number to [email protected]

Why 4000 steps a day?

Research has shown that walking 4,000 steps or more each day can lower your risk of heart disease and death.

Go Jauntly

Go Jauntly is a free walking app offering routes and inspiration for local walks on your doorstep.  The Travel Well walks collection provides a set of short easy and accessible walks to get you started. Each walk route in the app includes a map, photographs and points of interest along the route to help with navigation.

You can use the app to discover new routes in Nottingham or add your own, along with photos.  The app can also generate maps of routes to walk from your location.  The app is available to download for free on the App store or from Google Play.

The partnership with Go Jauntly is part of the Travel Well programme.  It is a government funded trial to see whether social prescriptions of more walking or cycling can improve health.
