The application process
Thank you for previously submitting an Expression of Interest for the Travel Well Community Grant Scheme.
You should have received the link to this page on an email sent from [email protected]. If you have not yet been in contact with the Travel Well team, before proceeding here, you must firstly fill out an Expression of Interest form.
Objective of the grant
The Travel Well Community Grant Scheme is intended to enable community organisations to bid for funding to buy equipment which can enable and encourage walking and cycling.
As part of a national trial funded by Active Travel England, Nottingham is one of 11 areas where it has been identified that people switching to more active lifestyles can make a real difference. The particular area of interest for Travel Well are the focussed communities of Bulwell, Bulwell Hall, Snape Wood, Crabtree Farm, Highbury Vale, Aspley Estate, Beechdale, Bells Lane Estate, Bilborough, Broxtowe, Strelley Estate, St Ann’s and Sneinton. Statistics show that residents in these areas are less likely to be active and would therefore benefit greatly from walking and cycling activities.
The grant will need to focus in these areas. It can help residents getting to or from your community organisation or to partake in active travel more generally. Alternatively, it may directly complement the rest of the Travel Well programme if your community group is involved with referrals into the programme, although this is not a requirement of acceptance.
Referrals can come into Travel Well via a formal route whereby health care employees can refer or prescribe residents to walking and cycling activities to assist with their mental and physical health. Also, referrals can come from community organisations or from self-referrals.
Travel Well is the name of the active travel social prescribing pilot, grant funded by Active Travel England, part of the government. The aims of Travel Well are to:
- Address local community identified need relating to underrepresented groups, high levels of deprivation and health inequalities.
- Actively promote increased levels of physical activity through cycling and walking.
- Demonstrate clear links between infrastructure development and the proposed social prescribing activities.
- Support modal shift to active travel providing people with travel choices and supporting changes in behaviour.
It is important to Travel Well to consider the programme legacy. The grant scheme will enable assets to be purchased by community organisations that can be used to encourage and enable but also embed walking and cycling into residents’ lives and aim to help to fulfil the list above.
