Travel Well Community Grant Scheme – Expression of Interest
What is the grant for?
The Travel Well Community Grant Scheme seeks to help community organisations and local groups with a one-off instalment to buy an asset or assets to encourage and enable walking and cycling.
What is Travel Well?
Travel Well is the name of the nationally funded programme trial of active travel social prescribing focussing on our target areas of:
- Aspley, Beechdale, Bilborough,
- Bulwell and Bulwell Forest
- St. Ann’s and Sneinton
The social prescriptions of walking or cycling related activities can come into Travel Well via a formal route from health care workers. Also, referrals can come from community organisations or from self-referrals. This grant can either assist with general uptake of walking or cycling or specifically complement the rest of the Travel Well programme if your community group is directly involved in the referral process.

FAQs
Question: I run a community centre very close to the boundary where Travel Well operates. I would love to apply for 10 bikes which we can store and lend out to our users for the day. Is it worth me applying? Answer: It may be the case that you operate close enough to our target area and it would be beneficial to local residents. It should be nice and quick to fill out the expression of interest form below. Alternative, if you email [email protected] we can reply and let you know what we think.
Question: I have an idea of what I would like. I am thinking of 20 bikes, and the needed accessories and then some helmets if case people want them. Maybe a couple of cycling raincoats. If I estimate and round it up, will you send me the money and I can go out and buy it? Answer: In order to get the grant, you need an itemised shopping list. If you know exactly what you want, can provide the links or quotes, we can send you the money up front to purchase.
Question: Our group only started a little while ago and we haven’t yet got a fully constituted joint charity / group bank account. Will you pay the grant into my personal account? Answer: If approved, we can only pay the grant into a charity / group bank account that is fully constituted.
Question: Is this a quick process? Can I get the grant by the end of next week? Answer: we will try to process the application as quickly as can but by the end of next week is too quick a turnaround time. The expression of interest needs to be checked, then an application request sent out and then this is reviewed by a panel to ensure it is sound and legitimate.
Question: Will you give the grant if we don’t actually need any assets but actually need a bit of money to cover room hire and teas / coffees to help a walk or cycle event? Answer: No. But this may be covered by the Travel Well Community Enabling Fund, facilitated by NCVS. Please email [email protected] to find out more.

Expression of interest questions
This is an expression of interest form where we intend to find out more about your organisation or group and whether it appears to meet our requirements to receive a grant.
Please answer the following questions in as much detail as you can. We may contact you to seek clarification or ask for elaboration to help us decide. You are likely to hear back from Travel Well shortly where we may deem it worthy of your time to complete the full application or whether state it is not appropriate for you to continue.
Filling out the below does not guarantee a response. If you do not hear from us again, you have been unsuccessful. If you are refused, or do not hear back, you will have no right of appeal of this decision. This does not affect your ability to apply again for this scheme or any other one.
Please note, success in this initial expression of interest, does not correlate to success after a full application is made. The full application process requires more detail, is more rigorous and goes before a grant panel.
