The latest project to improve bus services for passengers will begin near Crown Island on Monday (4 November).
The overnight works, which will be completed by the end of November, will introduce two new bus lanes on the A609 Wollaton Road and make improvements to local bus stops and pedestrian access.
The lanes will be inbound from Woodhall Road to the island and beyond to the St Peter’s Street junction – operational between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday. Meanwhile, the existing outbound bus lane from St Peter’s Street towards Crown Island will begin to operate the same hours.
The new and upgraded lanes will help with bus times and reliability on the trentbarton two, which has recently been supported with funding to enhance its frequency to every 10 minutes, and the NCT pink 28 and 30 services.
Modelling has shown that the bus lanes will not have a negative impact on the regular traffic flow around the junction, and will help to significantly improve journey times and reliability for bus passengers.
These works complement previous infrastructure investment along this key bus route in electric buses, traffic-light priority for late-running services and upgraded public transport information displays at stops.

Funding comes from the Government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) – a pot of money to upgrade public transport in the city.
The BSIP programme is a partnership between councils and bus operators in Greater Nottingham to bid for £13.8m of Government funding to improve services for local passengers. It has been produced by Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.
It will fund greener buses, reduced fares for younger people, and more contactless ticketing options, among a series of proposals that aim to make using the bus even easier and services more reliable.
Projects already completed under the scheme include supporting young people leaving care to travel around the city, adding a youth fares discount for all 19 to 21-year-olds, a discount scheme for commuters and protecting and enhancing service frequencies on 14 bus services, including the 70/71, 49, 50, 53/54, 18a, 3, the two and 1E.
Another BSIP scheme to upgrade the main bus stop outside the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Derby Road, is also due to start on Monday (4 November) and be completed inside three weeks.
